Mayflower descendants, Society of

An organization founded in New York City, Dec. 22, 1894, by the lineal descendants of the Mayflower Pilgrims. The purpose of the society is “to preserve their memory, their records, their history, and all facts relating to them, their ancestors, and their posterity.” Any lineal descendant of a Pilgrim of the Mayflower who has reached the age of eighteen years is eligible to membership. The annual meeting occurs on Nov. 21, the anniversary of the signing of the “Compact.” The total membership in 1900, scattered over several of the New England and Middle States, was 2,500. Henry E. Howland is governor-general, and Richard Henry Greene is secretary-general.
